HANDBOOK for Immortals

All Immortals are responsible for following the rules.

Last updated: Feb 18, 2006  by Mystic

As an immortal, you have certain rules that your immortal
character (hereafter referred to as Imm) must abide by.

The golden rule of being a mud immortal:
It's a game. Don't lose sight of this fact.

The 2nd rule:  It's Mystic's way or the highway.

THERE HAS BEEN SOME MISUNDERSTANDING OF WHO THESE RULES APPLY TO.  LET'S MAKE THIS SIMPLE:  IF YOU CAN READ THESE RULES, THEY APPLY TO YOU (IMMs AND IMPs).  IF MYSTIC HASN'T GIVEN YOU EXPLICIT PERMISSION TO IGNORE A RULE, THEN YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN PERIL.

1. KEEP IT FAIR.

a) Your Imm MAY NOT assist mortals. That means:
- don't group with mortals.
- don't drain a mob to low hit points so a mortal can kill it.
- don't set a mob's experience.
- don't give mortals equipment or gold or anything else.
- don't donate equipment, sell equipment, or any other such action that will assist a mortal.

********************************************************
In case you missed it: YOUR IMM MAY NOT ASSIST MORTALS!
********************************************************

b) Your Imm MAY NOT kill a mortal or attack him in any way.

c) Your Imm MAY NOT kill a mob and leave its equipment where it can be found by a mortal.

d) Your Imm MAY NOT assist your own mortal character in any way.
(It would be best if you didn't even multi with your Imm on.)

e) Your Imm MAY NOT harass the mortals in any way shape or form.

f) Your Imm MAY NOT transfer mortals to other locations.

g) Your Imm MAY NOT help a mortal who is in combat through killing off the mob, transferring them to get them out of trouble, giving the mortal heals, or any other such actions.

h) Your Imm MAY NOT cast armor, bless, blindness, charm person, curse, group armor, group heal, heal, invisibility, protection from evil, sanctuary, strength, or any other spell which will assist a mortal in his quest for experience.

i) Your Imm MAY NOT snoop a mortal or otherwise invade a mortal's privacy.

Your Imm MAY

a) Your Imm may assist mortals through advice, showing them around, and otherwise being a nice guy.

b) Your Imm MAY give directions to an area or room.

c) Your Imm MAY give stats of mobs to mortals. (Do not make this a habit).

d) Your Imm MAY transfer a mortal who is blinded, lost, or in other similar distress.

Your Imm MUST

a) Your Imm MUST be a nice guy.

b) Your Imm MUST use common sense to know what you can and cannot do.

These rules are meant as a guideline for your behavior as an Imm on the mud.  Follow them and all will be fine. Do not follow them and you will not be an immortal for very much longer. If you're lucky, you will get a second chance.  There will be NO third chances.

Mystic is above these rules and does not have to abide by them. I WILL NOT be sucked into the politics which plague many muds.  I want to spend my time improving this mud, not playing nanny.  I reserve the right to snoop you, log your behavior, or otherwise invade your privacy while on the mud to make sure you are abiding by the rules.  That said, if any Imm/Imp needs supervising, then they probably don't need to
have that level of character on here, and I can fix that.

I reserve the right to make up any other rules as needed so read this handbook often.  If something is not covered here and seems to be something you should not be doing, then DON'T DO IT.

How To Help Players:
You can use your non-Imm characters to help other players
any way you wish.  It doesn't take special powers to be nice.
But your non-Imm characters must be earned legitimately.

2) KEEP IT BALANCED

How about if we start all new players out at level 300, and give
them a sword that not only kills anything in the mud with 1 hit,
but also raises all their stats and affects so nothing can hit them?

If you didn't recognize that as sarcasm, turn in your Imm char now.

BALANCE is critical to a mud. We all know the thrill of working our way up so we can kill that next boss mob and finally earn the right to wield his sword and wear his equipment.  Why would anyone want to deprive our players of that thrill?  Why would anyone bother to play here if everything is handed to them?  Where's the challenge?

Many people have worked countless hours to create a good, balanced game, and it is all being destroyed in 5 seconds through the use of OLC.  We've already established that we (Imm's and Imp's) don't give stuff to players, so it is also pointless to create items that don't fit here.  I don't plan to supervise each detail of this.

*********************************************************************
If I have to supervise your OLC actions,
you probably aren't ready to have that power.
*********************************************************************

If you really aren't sure what stats an item or mob should have, talk to others, post it on the boards, etc.  If you see something that's definitely out of whack, like a 1 hp mob that gives 2 billion xp, (and there was one) fix it immediately and finetune it later.  Don't let the power of OLC go to your head.
"Remember Peter, with great power comes great responsibility" :-)

OLC gives you plenty of opportunities to maintain balance.
To list a few examples:

- set the rent level.
- make it Avatar-only or God-only.
- give it a negative aspect, ie, -2 hitroll.
- limit how many can be loaded.

And when you make changes to the public port of AderonMUD, post a notice on the immortal bulletin board so you can take credit for your work, and so the rest of us know what's changed too.  (Yes, I have logs, but don't make me use them  :-)

3) KEEP IT CONSISTENT

AderonMUD is a dungeons and dragons mud.  No room there for Star Trek themes.  And I don't know why O.J. was a regular here (he's not any more).  I think stuff like that is ok to trot out now and then for fun, for special occasions, holidays, etc.  But I reserve that privilege for myself, and for you, if you have something cool that we agree on.  Let's not overdo it.

4) KEEP IT INTERESTING

I have no worries about this one.  Everybody I talk to here has great ideas, based on countless hours of playing here and on other muds.  Let's make our ideas a reality here on AderonMUD.

5) MISC OLC

All of you suck at spelling and grammar.  I suck somewhat less than the rest of you.  I take spelling very seriously, I HATE spelling errors.  So be extremely careful before you change ANYTHING on the live port. Don't assume you know how to spell it--look it up.  Google "dictionary <word>".  I've spent a lot of hours cleaning up spelling errors on this mud, and I'm still not done.  Do not introduce new errors, I'm not here to clean up after you.

Do not screw with object and mob stats.  Don't think you can change something, create 1, rent it, change it back, and I won't notice. Consider this your official notice, last chance warning: if anybody does something like this, I will take away every IMM character on here and run AderonMUD alone again.  I have absolutely no problem with that. If you screw up, you screw it up for everybody.  I do not have time nor desire to supervise the immortals.  You break my rules at everyone's peril.

All new zone development will be done on port 3205. Do not create new stuff on the live port.  See me before starting any new projects on the build port.

***********************************************************************
Bottom line:
Here are the only reasons to have a god char on the live port:
- to fix/adjust existing areas.
- to provide an immortal presence on the mud to attract new players.
- to provide friendly, useful guidance to new players.
- and to stay the hell out of the player's game.

If you're using your char for anything else, you're probably out of bounds.
